Designing with Graphene and other advanced materials

Chaired by Robert Quarshie, Head of Materials & Nano, Knowledge Transfer Network

Graphene is incredibly light and flexible yet 200 times times stronger than steel. Its barrier properties are making the dream of safe drinking water in developing countries a reality. Come along to hear more about graphene and other advanced 2D materials which will revolutionise product design and manufacturing in the future.

Getting started in 3D Printing 

Chaired by Ben Griffin, Design Lead, Innovate UK 

3D printing of final products is no longer fiction, and we believe designers can be truly imaginative with current technologies and materials. At this session you’ll hear top tips on getting started in 3D printing including when its appropriate to go 3D, mistakes to avoid and where to go for help and advice. Panelists include Jonathan Rowley, Design Director, Digits2Widgets. Supported by the KTN Additive Manufacturing Special Interest Group.

Chaired by Bernie Rickinson, CEO, Institute of Materials, Minerals, & Mining 

Fascinated by polymers, composites, smart textiles, metals or nano materials and their role in product development? This is a unique opportunity to meet the MaDE expert panel of materials scientists – bring along your questions about materials properties, manufacturing processes and where to go for materials advice when you need it.

MaDE Materials & Design Clinic

Experts from the Materials and Design Exchange (MaDE) Partnership will visit exhibitors on their stands to offer advice on materials selection and manufacturing. MaDE Partners include Barron Gould, The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, the Institution of Engineering Designers and Knowledge Transfer Network. Prior booking will be arranged by New Designers and the KTN.
