Established in 1945, the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) is a Chartered Body representing over 5000 members working in engineering and product design.

We exist to provide support and guidance to our members, regarding their career development, professional standing and registration as engineers and designers.  Benefits for members include fantastic networking opportunities, an excellent bi-monthly journal, legal advice service, Professional Indemnity insurance deals, local branch activities, CPD and mentoring, guidance and support to registration with the Engineering Council, the Society for the Environment and the IED’s own Registers for Product Designers and CAD specialists.

We are the only organisation in the world to specifically offer Chartered status to product designers, with our Chartered Technological Product Design (CTPD) registration and sister qualification Registered Product Designer (RProdDes).   We also work with numerous educational bodies across the globe to formulate, validate and accredit academic course in engineering and product design and have held an annual international design education conference since 1969, E&PDE (Engineering and Product Design Education).
